THE FILM:
Benazir is a movie about Benazir Bhutto's rise and fall in Pakistani politics, as believed by filmmaker Muhammad Ali Hasan. Hasan's first major film, Rabia, was a biopic about Palestine's first female suicide bomber, Wafa Idris. The film received critically acclaimed reviews from Film Threat and Indie Express, ultimately screening at over 85 film festivals and winning over 35 awards. The controversial nature of Rabia caused audiences to empathize deeply with a suicide bomber, despite the awful attack that is committed. Hasan is applying the same controversial principles in telling Benazir Bhutto's story.
Based on accounts from friends and political acquaintances, filmmaker Muhammad Ali Hasan tells a story that explains Benazir Bhutto's deepest motivations, as well as sheds light on the corruption that occurred while she was in office. Hasan's script is currently registered with the Writer's Guild of America and is in development.
